The Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE is an inducement prize contest, offering a US$7 million Grand Prize, US$2 million Second Prize, and US$1 million Third Prize to the best among the finalists offering an automatic non-invasive health diagnostics packaged into a single portable device that weighs no more than 5 pounds (2.3 kg), able to diagnose over a dozen medical conditions, including whooping cough, hypertension, mononucleosis, shingles, melanoma, HIV, and osteoporosis. The name is taken from the tricorder device from the science fiction TV series Star Trek which can be used to instantly diagnose ailments. The prize was announced by the X Prize Foundation on 10 May 2011 and subsequently launched on 10 January 2012 at CES 2012. Dynamical Bio­mark­ers Group (DBG) is a participant of the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition, which aims to foster disruptive revolution in healthcare by stimulating the development of innovative personal diagnostic devices. The competition challenges contestants to develop a device under 5 pounds capable of capturing key health metrics and diagnosing a set of 15 diseases. As of August 27, 2014, DBG is one of the top 10 finalist teams in the competition.

DBG is sponsored by HTC, a global leader in innovation and design. The team leader, Chung-Kang Peng, Ph.D., is the founding dean of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, and K.-T. Li Chair Professor of the National Central University in Taiwan. He is also the Co-Director of the Rey Institute for Nonlinear Dynamics in Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School.
